A hotel manager who crept into victims’ rooms to touch their feet has been jailed for rape and sexual assault.
Ahmed Fahmy abused his position as a member of staff at the Anchor Hotel in Golders Green, north London where he targeted two women from the same group to carry out his sick offences in January 2024.
He also attacked a woman at the Sunborn Yacht Hotel, at Victoria Dock, east London, in the early hours of March 30, 2022. His offences saw him let himself into his victim’s bedrooms and touch their feet.
He was found guilty in July 2024 of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault after a two-week trial at Harrow Crown Court sitting at Hendon Magistrates’ Court. The offences date between 2008 and 2024.
He was today sentenced to 10 years in prison with an extension period of three years. An extended sentence consists of a custodial term which reflects the seriousness of the offending followed by an extended licence period, according to the CPS.
Police believe he may have many more victims and have today put out a fresh appeal for potential victim-survivors to come forward. Officers say they are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have met Fahmy while he was working at various hotels across London.
They say as part of his “modus operandi” detectives know that Fahmy abused the trust of his employers and hotel guests to manipulate and gain access to the guest rooms where women were staying, even encouraging some to stay in his room.
After the verdict last year Detective Constable James Gomm, who led the investigation, said: “Fahmy displayed a clear pattern of offending where he abused his position as a hotel worker to get close to his victims and carry out his crimes.”
On January 19, 2024 four women had travelled to London and were staying in a hotel in Golders Green, north-west London, where Fahmy worked. The group were separated on a night out and three of the women made their way back to the hotel in the early hours of the morning but then realised they did not have the room key.
Fahmy, 45, of Hampstead, north-west London claimed he did not have another key for the room and demanded that one of the women withdraw £80 from a nearby cashpoint so she could stay in a different room, the police said. Fahmy let her into a separate room.
She took her shoes off and got into bed fully dressed, but was woken up by Fahmy licking her foot. She told him ‘no’ and to go away and he left but the woman was woken a second time by Fahmy doing a similar thing. She kicked him and again said ‘no’.
The fourth member of the group arrived back at the hotel later in the morning. She told Fahmy she had lost her room key while out. Fahmy manoeuvred her into his bedroom where he raped her, police said.
A day later police were called to Regent’s Park where the woman had been found in a distressed state after becoming separated from her friends. She could not tell police where the new hotel was so officers planned to take her back to her original hotel where they hoped to find contact details for her friends.
The woman started crying and told the officers that she could not return to the hotel as the manager had raped her. Fahmy was arrested on suspicion of rape and the other member of the group who Fahmy sexually assaulted earlier also reported what had happened to her
Fahmy was accused of touching a victim’s feet in a room at a hotel he was working at in Canning Town, east London, in the other case.
After the hearing DC Gomm praised the victims for their courage, adding: “Some of the offences in this case happened a number of years ago and some victim-survivors felt more able to support the investigation now that time had passed since their initial reports.
“I do not underestimate for a moment the impact that reliving what happened will have had on those victim-survivors and I want thank them for supporting this investigation. Your bravery has helped put a sexual offender behind bars and protect other women.
“There may be other victims of Fahmy and, if so, I would urge them to get in contact with police immediately – you will be listened to and provided with support.”
Fahmy is confirmed to have worked in five hotels across the city, though detectives believe there could have been more. The hotels did not belong to the same brand and were all situated in different locations across London.
