Morrisons has hiked the prices of its cafe menu ahead of major plans to shut 52 supermarket cafe branches. According to reports, prices at the supermarket’s cafe have increased by 6.25%, with the price of its Ultimate Breakfast having risen by 50p.
The breakfast item features three sausages, two bacon, two fried eggs, sliced mushrooms, two black pudding, two hash browns, Heinz Baked Beanz and fried bread. In May 2024, this option cost £8 however, on its most up to date online menu – dated October 2024 – the meal was priced at £8.50.
The Full Breakfast – which includes two sausages, two bacon, a fried egg, sliced mushrooms, two hash browns, Heinz Baked Beanz, toast, and butter – also increased, going from £6.75 to £7, a rise of 25p. The supermarket’s sweet Stacked Pancakes have risen in price going from £4.25 to £4.50.
These breakfast items have now been added to the supermarket’s two for £12 meal deal. Which gives shoppers the chance to save £2 when buying to large fryups. Other items on the 2 for £12 offer adre the full vegetarian breakfast and the full vegan breakfast – these also both cost £7.
Sadly, it’s not just the prices of breakfast items that have seen a rise. The price of Morrison’s Ultimate Fish, Chips & Mushy Peas has increased from £7.75 to £8.50 – a larger rise of 75p. Meanwhile, the battered sausages, chips and mushy peas increased from £6 to £6.50. A portion of chips has also increased from £2 to £2.50. Morrisons declined to comment when approached for comment by the Sun.
Earlier this week, the major supermarket chain announced plans to shut 17 convenience stores and 52 of its in-store cafés. Alongside this, it announced that it will also shut all 18 of its market kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies.
Morrisons says the decision was made after a “wide-ranging review” found these services were not cost-effective. The majority of employees affected by these changes will be offered alternative roles elsewhere in the company, but the grocer confirmed there will be around 365 jobs at risk of redundancy.
The supermarket also noted that the shake-up was partly to help “help mitigate recent significant cost increases” including an increase in employers’ National Insurance and the minimum wage.

When the news was announced, Rami Baitiéh, Chief Executive of Morrisons, said: “The changes we are announcing today are a necessary part of our plans to renew and reinvigorate Morrisons and enable us to focus our investment into the areas that customers really value and that can play a full part in our growth.
“Morrisons Cafés are rightly famous for their great quality well-priced food, their place in the local community and their appealing mix of traditional favourites alongside exciting new dishes. In most locations the Morrisons Café has a bright future, but a minority have specific local challenges and in those locations, regrettably, closure and re-allocation of the space is the only sensible option.
He added: ““Although these changes are relatively small in the context of the overall scale of the Morrisons business, we do not take lightly the disruption and uncertainty they will cause to some of our colleagues. We will of course take particular care to look after all of them well through the coming changes.”
