Haley Joel Osment has been arrested for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance at a ski resort. The 37-year-old actor was arrested by cops at Mammoth Mountain resort in California.
Haley – who appeared in Sixth Sense as a young child – was arrested by police after they received a call before 2pm. They headed to the resort in California, with one police source telling People: “The controlled substance right now is presumed to be cocaine. We sent it for testing. We will have the results soon.”
The actor’s mugshot has been shared – and in the picture, he is smiling despite being booked for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance. Cops were called due to Haley’s “unruly conduct”, according to sources.
Sergeant Jason Heilman confirmed: “He was booked and is no longer in custody. Public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance are the charges related to the arrest [on April 8].”
The incident is still under investigation and it has yet to be revealed by the Mono County District Attorney’s Office whether Haley will face charges. It was the Mammoth Lakes Police Department who arrested him and provided the mugshot.
Sources told TMZ that Haley had been struggling after losing everything in the Altadena wildfire and has had issues with insurance. He was believed to have found a replacement home but the insurer is said to have denied the claim.
Last year, Haley spoke about his decision to take a break from Hollywood. He said: “My parents used to say when I first started out in this industry, ‘If it’s ever not fun, you can quit tomorrow.’ And when I got to be college age, I got to go off and study theatre and really think hard about whether I wanted to do this as my career in life.
“The answer has always been yes at all these junctures. It’s still a job that I really enjoy, despite all the uncertainty and the difficulty of being able to plan your life three to six months out.”
With him being famous now and decades ago, social media has risen and Haley admits it’s been an “interesting shift in dynamics”.
Explaining that he had joined social media to counteract all the fake accounts being set up, he said: “At this point I’m comfortable with it. In this very large media environment, it’s the way to promote your projects and help people keep up to date on what you’re doing within the balance of reasonable privacy. I resisted it for so long and now it’s like, ‘Hey, it’s fun to do some posts’.”
