Social media in tears over video of loyal dog trying to dig up his owner during burial

Hearts are breaking worldwide as a video has circulated showing a mourning dog attempting to dig up his owner during his burial. The loyal best friend named Crispín was left heartbroken after his owner, Jacinto, died from a long-term illness.

The late owner’s cousin spoke of how the pooch was consistently by Jacinto’s side throughout his health ordeal, never leaving his bedside even on the day of his death. However, when his owner was buried, the dog made a show of his grief, unable to understand why Jacinto’s body was being placed into the ground.

A clip has gone viral of the pup’s desperate attempt to ‘save’ his friend, gaining 5.4 million views on TikTok. The video shows cemetery workers beginning to seal the coffin in place with cement slabs.

Confused, the dog suddenly leaped onto the slabs and searched for his pal. He was seen sniffing the concrete for signs of Jacinto and trying to stare through the slabs to the coffin below.

Crispín appeared to be relentless in his efforts, not giving up even when the coffin was covered with soil and artificial turf. He proceeded to then dig a small hole at the edge of the plot, pushing his head in and out in hopes of finding his best friend.

The video, which has touched the hearts of millions, was captioned: “The man’s best friend until the end, his name is Crispín and he is my cousin’s puppy”. The caption went on, adding: “When he was sick Crispín did not separate from him, until the day he died Crispín accompanied him.

“Crispín did not understand why my cousin was underground and wanted to go with him. Thank you Crispín for accompanying my cousin to the end.”

The video has gained over 268,000 likes and 15,000 comments, all of which share their love for the dog’s heart-warming misunderstanding. A user named Canela wrote that the dog “just wants to smell him one last time”.

Another said they hoped the dog “has someone from family to love him”. Christine adding: “Nooooo him scratching, we crying in the cluurrrbb”; and Dolsy sharing that the video was “so painful to watch”.

Reyna also shared her thanks, writing: “Thank you for including and allowing Crispín to get his closure”. The video was filmed in Peru, South America, on March 18.

Another video recently went viral showing a heart-wrenching clip from a rescue centre. In it, Ice, who was waiting to be adopted, was seen resting his head on the hand of his carer while being given face stroke. The “gentle but playful” pooch, around five-years-old, is a mixed breed rescued from a Romanian public shelter.

Hearted melted over the video which was accompanied with the message: “Our gentle giant Ice enjoying some chin strokes. He hopes that one day he’ll be able to get an infinite amount of strokes in his forever home.”

The comments section was brimming with affection for Ice, a dog in need of a forever home. One person gushed: “Aww he makes my heart melt – wish I was in a position for him. He’s soo handsome and cute.”

Another hopeful comment read: “He’s beautiful hope he finds his forever home soon”, while someone else expressed their support: “Omg he’s gorgeous but I’ve got 3 rescues already! ! Shared with hope”.
